Sorry for being late. I konow there has not been content in a while, which is mainly because I do not get samples but have to buy most of the stuff I review. I´m looking for some "co-bloggers" but for now without much luck.
Anyhow, today I have a real gem. This is a review I planned to do months ago, on a knife I got on a passaround. It is a handmade piece of gear, made by the German knifemaker Gunter Löbach, and as you will see it is one of the most unusual but most beautiful knives ever made. So ladies and gentlemen, here is the SHAPESHIFTER TALISMAN

Well, Mr. Löbach had one very well known problem in mind: How can I make a pocketknife, that is not limited by the handle size? His answer was the original Shapeshifter, a knife with an unique handle design, that turns into some kind of fixed blade when opened. The Shapeshifter turned out to be a fantastic knife, so Mr. Löbach designed a second version, the Shapeshifter EDC, followed by new blade and handle designs, the Shapeshifter Talon, Warp and Flame. All of them can be found on the linked page above.
The smallest and maybe most amazing member of the Shapeshifter family is the Talisman. It is a very small knife, made of only the finest materials and looking like a piece of jewelry. Yes, I LOVE that knife! It comes as a pendant on a leather cord. So to keep it simple, it is "just" another neck knife, but a very clever made one. The knife comes with a leather cord and a pendant, made of Damasteel. The pendant fits in a hole in the back of the knife, when the knife is more than half opened. When you close the knife, a part of the blade locks the pendant in place, so the knife sits there very secure. When you open it again, it can be removed easily, can be used, and stored back on the pendant again. Very nice, very well made and very clever!
Let me talk about the knife in use. The handle fits in the hand very well, but have in mind this is a very small knife, so it is a three finger handle. Thanks to the design, the handle is very large for a knife that small, and so one of the most convenient tiny knives to use. Once opened, the handle snaps in place and locks. You have to use a lever to unlock the blade, so unintended opening or closing seems to be impossible.
The blade comes razor sharp, and is big enough for most EDC tasks. Still, it is no hard user, this knife is a gentleman blade, a piece of art that can be used as a knife. I guess it would be a great steak knife, but the image of using that beauty on a plate makes me feel sick ;)
It is a very nice letter opener, good to open boxes etc. I would not use it for much harder work, but I think if you wanted to, the knife would perform great. Fit and finish are amazing, you can tell that it is handmade by a gifted craftsman.
Mr. Löbach offers a wide variety of handle materials and blade steels, so you can customize your Shapeshifter. Liners are made of anodized titanium. The sample shown here has a Damasteel blade and dessert ironwood scales.
The price depends on your choices, a standard version costs about 600, - €. Damasteel, real hand-forged damascus, handle special materials etc add to that price.
Yes, that is bloody expensive, and the only reason I do not own one now. For knife enthusiasts and collectors, the Shape Shifter is a must have!

The knife may be small, the three-finger grip super fit but at least in my hand. The blade is open letters and the like suitable, but I would not use it for everything. The idea to cut the piece of jewelry on a porcelain plate in Steakhouse me shudder a bit. Poor knife!
The Talisman is just a gentlemen knives, made as jewelry and stylish carry out everyday tasks, but not as work animals. I doubt not the fact that it could, the lock is secure and the processing is 1A, but who wants to call such a superb piece of it?
What remains is the price: depending on the version, the Shape Shifter talisman from around 600, - € to have real damask or wants to handle special materials, the price. Still, for enthusiatic and collectors is the talisman is a must in the collection.
